Neverending period? [Mar. 7th, 2011|05:56 pm]
35+ Moms with new babies

[Maternal mood at the moment |weirdweird]

Anyone still here? I haven’t been on LJ in awhile.

Have any of you experienced a period that lasts too long? I’ll be 41 this month, I’ve never been on birth control, and I’ve never been on hormone replacement. My periods have always been very regular, aside from about a year and a half ago when I skipped one every two months three times in a row (or so, if memory serves). This month my period has gone beyond it’s normal 3-5 days... going on 9 days now. It’s light, but it’s freaking me out a little. I’m wondering if it’s just part of perimenopause? Or maybe fibroids? I’m making a doc appt soon, but was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, and what it turned out to be.

TY for listening.

My periods went insane right before I hit menopause. I was getting month long periods, then they'd go away for a month.

And they were very heavy.

So, yes, it could be perimenopause. they say you'll enter menopause around the same time that your own mother did.

Do you know when that was?

I wish I knew. Her periods were so heavy at my age that she elected to have a hysterectomy. She always assumed her periods were heavy because of how many children she had (6), but I'm guessing it was hormones. Then, I don't know when she started HT after the hysterectomy, so menopause was sort of a blur in her case.

Could be fibroids. Could be all sorts of things, really. This is one of those "reasonable to talk to a gyno" sorta things.
My periods go whacky around stress, though. So, I dunno.

I had that happen a few months ago. I'm 44 so menopause should be right around the corner.

I haven't been to the doctor about this issue as I assumed that I'm perimenopausal. I'm only 41, but some women in my family began early. I'm not too worried, its just a pain in the butt. :)

Sound like "normal-whacky" to me... but if you are worried... go talk to your doc or a gyno cause really.... "If it's nothing to worry about... why not find out" :)

It's my new motto.... I'm terrible for NOT going the the DOC... and now I wish i had :(
